The Hoopoe is a cinnamon-orange bird with a striking black and white striped wing, a long, downcurved bill, and a large erectile crest on its head that fans out like a crown. The crest is often held closed but is raised when the bird is excited or has just landed.
Distribution
Hoopoes are found mainly in southern Thailand's, in cultivated areas, including farmland, orchards, and parkland, as well as open mixed deciduous and hill evergreen forests up to 1,500 meters.
Hoopoes are solitary foragers, often seen hunting for insects which they find by probing the ground with their long bill.
Hoopoes typically breed at the start of the wet season, sometimes as early as late March. They are cavity-nesters, using existing holes in tree hollows, cliff faces, holes in banks and the walls of buildings.
