Appearance
The White-crested Laughingthrush is a large, stocky bird with a striking white crest and hood, contrasting with a broad black mask, and a rufous-brown body. It has a grey nape, a white throat and upper chest, and reddish-brown underparts. Its legs and bill are dark.
Distribution
The White-crested Laughingthrush is found in northern, western, and parts of the northeastern regions of Thailand, but is absent from the southern part of the country.
White-crested Laughingthrushs natural are found in broadleaved evergreen, semi-evergreen, and dry deciduous forests, often in areas with dense undergrowth and bamboo, typically found up to 1,600 meters in elevation. They are commonly heard and seen foraging through the undergrowth in flocks.
The White-crested Laughingthrush breeds from February to September, building shallow, cup-shaped nests in shrubs and trees. Both parents and helpers (often older chicks) feed the chicks.
