South Africa is home to nineteen national parks and home to one of the most famous in the world, Kruger National Park.
I have been fortunate to have visited two parks during my recent visits, to this amazing country. One day in Pilanesberg and one week in Kruger.
Spent a day at this sanctuary, located approximately 75km from Aurangabad. Despite reviews talking about leopards, dohls, bears, antelope, water buffalo, we saw ....... nothing! Not quite true, we did see many Hanuman Langurs, two woodpeckers, three parakeets and a kingfisher. We also saw domestic buffalo, domestic cows and domestic goats.
We drove the length and breadth (limited to two roads), and walked in the very dry forest for over an hour, before being chased out by a worker. There were signs of large bovid footprints, deer foot prints and even cat footprints that could have been a leopard.
Dissapointing, there was nobody to ask for information and the discarded rubbish was everywhere, lining the roads and covering the viewpoint areas.
Knowing wildlife was there, I can only assume that the lack of wildlife was due to it being the dry season and / or the amount of traffic passing through the sanctuary. We did venture into the valley, in the hope of seeing something, but again nothing.
