Location

Huai Kha Khaeng Wildlife Sanctuary is located in western Thailand, in the Dawna Range, in Uthai Thani, Tak and Kanchanaburi Provinces.

Together with Thung Yai Naresuan, it is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

It is approximately 320 km from Bangkok. 

History

The sanctuary was established in 1974. 

Ecosystem

Huai Kha Khaeng comprises 5 distinct forest types including dry tropical, mixed deciduous, and dry evergreen forests.

It is home to 120 mammal species, 400 bird species and 96 known reptile species.

Notable species include: Asian Elephants, Indochinese Tiger, Indochinese Leopards, Banteng, Malayan Tapir, Water Buffalo, Eldes Deer, Fea's Muntjac and Germain's Langur.

Size

Dong Yai Wildlife Sanctuary covers an area of  2,789 km², forming part of the largest intact protected forest complex in mainland Southeast Asia.

Getting There
Pang Sida is fairly remote and not easily accessed using public transport, so it is best to visit by car. In the rainy season a 4wd would be beneficial. The journey from Bangkok takes approximately 4hrs.

The park has a campsite with basic amenities. 

There are a number of  houses available to rent, prebooking through the department of National Parks website at portal.dnp.go.th  is neccessary.
