Diet 

Carnivorous.

Small mammals, birds, reptiles, eggs, insects, fruits, and nectar, They have also been known to kill Muntjac fawns and wild Boar piglets.

Appearance 

Covered in brownish yellow fur, with a golden yellow throat and chest and black tail.

Habitat

Forested areas, including montane and tropical rainforests.

Distribution 

Found throughout Thailand.

Although sightings of these cats have been reported, they are rarely seen due to their habitat and behaviour. Nearly all sightings today are with camera traps.

Useful Information

Martens are diurnal and can be seen throughout the day. They are primarily arboreal and can sometimes be seen sleeping in trees and travelling from tree to tree. Martens will come to the ground to feed.

They are often seen in pairs when hunting.

Where To See
Khao Yai National Park

Sometimes seen in the denser forested areas crossing or travelling along the roads. Thanarat road between km 30 viewpoint and the open grasslands at km 34. Also, along the forested part of Khao Khieo Road.

Kaeng Krachan National Park

Phanoen Thung Campsite has had a resident family of Yellow-throated Martens for many years. They can be seen at the rear of the restaurant and along the adjacent edge of the campsite foraging for left over food throughout the day. They can also be observed in the trees behind the restaurant resting.
