Diet 

Omnivorous

primarily insects and fruits, but also seeds, small vertebrates, and occasionally nectar.

Appearance 

Resembling a squirrel, they have a dense coat of greyish or olive fur on their backs and lighter, white or brown undersides. They have a long, pointed snout, large eyes, and small, rounded ears. The tail is long and bushy.

Habitat

Rainforests, shrublands, and even disturbed areas like parks and gardens, from lowlands to montane areas.

Distribution. 

Found throughout Thailand except eastern and southern Thailand.

Ta Phraya National Park

Although sightings of these cats have been reported, they are rarely seen due to their habitat and behaviour. Nearly all sightings today are with camera traps.

Useful Information

Strictly diurnal and both arboreal and terrestrial.

Treeshrews are often seen running across the road, and if walking in or along the forest edge, they are often seen feeding on smaller bushes and plants.

Northern Treeshrews live in monogamous pairs.

At Phanoen Thung Campsite when banana trees flower, Treeshrews can be seen feeding on the nectar.

  • Northern Tree Shrews are wild animals.
  • Do not approach or attempt to interact in any way.
  • Do not attempt to feed Squirrels.
