Bryde's Whale

Diet 

Carnivorous.

Sardines, anchovies, krill, copepods, red crabs and shrimp.

Appearance 

Dark smoky grey dorsally and usually white ventrally. Bottom jaw is grey and the underside of the jaw pink.

Habitat

Tropical, subtropical, and warm temperate waters, primarily between 40° south and 40° north latitude.

Distribution. 

Upper Gulf of Thailand, particularly in areas like Samut Sakhon, Samut Songkhram, Samut Prakan, and Phetchaburi provinces.

 

Gulf of Thailand

Although sightings of these cats have been reported, they are rarely seen due to their habitat and behaviour. Nearly all sightings today are with camera traps.

Useful Information

The whale watching season in the Gulf of Thailand is from September to December, when Bryde's whales come to feed on shoals of anchovies.

They are also observed in the waters around Chachoengsao, Bangkok, and Chonburi provinces. Whale watching boat tours are available, tour boats range in size from fifteen to fifty plus passengers.

Most tours provide a hot lunch and refreshments.
